Call Me. I Need To Talk To You About Everything And Nothing.

A girl from Cleveland sent me that line in a letter.
It stuck with me somewhere in my mind. Somewhere back there and I didn’t let the cobwebs settle on it. Especially when the world went silent and I began thinking about this collection.

This collection of songs is about loneliness and exile and crossings and hard work and dreams and love.
The songs are about solitude and how wonderful a place solitude is. Until it isn’t anymore.
And how beautiful the world is. And somehow, against all odds it continues to be.
They are about the weather when it’s usually raining.
And sleeping outside when it isn’t.
Road trips and dusty Summers.
Mushroom tea and the small birds migrating across the Autumn.
Restlessness and wanderings, and the people who took those things farther to the edge than I have. And at no small cost to their own selves. I always tried to recognize them as they passed through.
These songs are the bits of traveling stories that I’ve been told. And the bits that I wrote down myself for keeps at a quiet somewhere when I was alone.
These songs are about the wounds that have piled up in all of us.
And the moments when you suddenly found yourself above all of those wounds. At least for a little while.
I hope also that these songs are about a moment that implies a future and an immediacy that needs help from the past.

Joe Strummer said “We’re still in on a chance”.

Let’s write what is unwritten.

And not so much either with compression settings and EQ.
These tracks are from every sort of source: lovely studio sounds, well engineered live recordings, me recording somewhere with an alright mic., me bent over singing into my laptop. For some songs the only source were MP3's. I did my best.
